Of course worth to buy r4, then you can save much money to buy games. You can use r4 play hundreds of free games, including the newest games.
Now R4 is very cheap now, only need $18, you can check it at Digimartz.com, r4ds(http://www.digimartz.com/r4-ds-revolution-r4ds-microsdtf-slot1-solution-adapter-p-68.html)
and r4 sdhc(http://www.digimartz.com/r4-sdhc-revolution-adapter-for-ds-p-272.html)

if your looking for an r4 don’t bother, since they aren’t being sold anymore.
if you do find one, the is a very high chance that is is a fake, there are a few clones of the r4, for example, r4 III, and r4sdhc(there’s no such thing as an sdhc r4, the real r4 team never got around to making them, it’s nothing but a clone).
i suggest getting an acekard 2 from dealextreme.com it’s only about $14 and can do everything the r4 can do plus soo much more.
i own both the r4 and the acekard RPG(which is basically the same as the acekard 2) and i can tell you from years of experience that the acekard 2 is the best budget card around
